Arad, Romania
Notes & History
The old name of the locality, in Romanian, is Glogovăț , derived, according to legend, from Glogov , the name of an outlaw who lived in this area in the 18th century .
The first documentary attestation of the locality dates back only to 1752 , but, on its territory, archaeological excavations have revealed important vestiges, signs of very old habitations. A settlement dated to the 5th century , another from the 11th - 12th centuries and tombs from the 9th - 11th centuries were found in the place today called La Movile . Near the national road, on its eastern side, the five mounds stretch in a straight line. Many researchers consider them to be tumuli of barbarian chieftains.
At the Citadel, traces of a settlement from the 8th century , an earthen fortress from the 9th century and a medieval necropolis were discovered.
